U.S. Consulate General Sydney - Logo Design
Representing U.S. Government interests across New South Wales and Queensland, the U.S. Consulate General Sydney serves as the local diplomatic bridge between Australia and the United States. From facilitating partnerships in business and education to supporting American citizens abroad, this branch of the U.S. Department of State needed a fresh, professional logo to represent its presence in Australia in the 2 states, NSW+QLD, distinct from the official U.S. Embassy seal.

Despite the grand name, this wasn’t about creating a new “U.S. Embassy logo.” The team needed something more localised and personable, a design that captured the Consulate’s presence in NSW and Queensland while still aligning with official U.S. identity standards.
Their existing visual assets were all very Washington, D.C., but this project called for something that reflected the Australian context: Sydney Harbour views, state partnerships, and a tone that’s friendly yet formal.
Whether it’s printed on a coffee mug, notebook, or displayed at a community event, the logo now represents a trusted, visible link between two nations (and states). We might not have created a logo for the entire U.S. Department of State, but we’re proud to be the creative allies behind its Australian arm.
Shtudio set out to design a logo that balanced diplomatic formality with regional authenticity. We explored a mix of navy, red, and white, colours that nod to the U.S. identity without feeling too corporate or overly patriotic. The design process focused on connection and collaboration, using subtle visual cues that represent the Consulate’s role across NSW and QLD.
While the Embassy retains the traditional seal, this new identity would become the Consulate’s local mark — a visual handshake symbolising partnership between America and Australia along the East Coast.
