Chabad of Bondi - Logo & Website Refresh

Chabad of Bondi is a well known Synagogue, a non for profit Jewish organisation in the heart of Bondi Beach, Sydney. For over 15 years, we’ve partnered with them through different stages of growth, evolving their identity as their community expanded. Here is a project from about a decade ago.

This time was different.

They weren’t just refreshing their brand. They were building a landmark. A purpose built centre designed by Jackson Teece, an award winning multidisciplinary practice spanning architecture, interiors, urban design and heritage.

The goal was to create a clean, stylised logo with a corporate feel. Reference the new building in a subtle but recognisable way. Move beyond the old blue, wave based identity and use a refined gold and beige palette that reflects the materials of the space.

The brand had to live on the building facade, across digital platforms, in print and in the everyday touchpoints of a growing organisation. This wasn’t a cosmetic update. It was a new chapter.

Typography and System

We selected a versatile Google Font family with a strong range of weights, allowing flexibility across signage, stationery, digital campaigns and long form content.

The typography supports the architectural feel of the mark. Clean lines. Confident spacing. Structured hierarchy. It ensures consistency across everything from building signage to social posts.

The full brand system includes:

  • A primary logo inspired by the building form
  • A refined colour palette led by gold and beige
  • A custom corporate pattern derived from the interior architecture
  • A scalable typography system for print and digital
  • Brand guidelines to support long term consistency

Challenge

There were a few layers to solve.

First, legacy.
We had previously rebranded Chabad of Bondi twice over the past 15 years. The community knew the brand. It had history. But the old identity leaned heavily into waves and blue tones, referencing Bondi Beach in a literal way. It no longer reflected the maturity or ambition of the organisation.

Second, architecture.
The building existed only as a render, but the design was final. It had distinctive architectural elements and interior detailing that would define the physical experience of the space. The brand needed to feel connected to it, without becoming a sketch of a building.

Third, balance.
Chabad of Bondi sits at the intersection of faith, community and corporate responsibility. The brand had to feel warm and welcoming, yet structured and professional. Timeless, not trendy.

Solution

We approached the identity from the ground up, starting with the architecture.

Instead of copying the building facade, we studied its unique forms and proportions. The defining architectural elements were distilled into a simplified brand mark. What could have been a literal representation became a refined symbol, inspired by the building’s silhouette and structure.

The result is a clean, confident mark that feels anchored and permanent. It references the physical space in a way the community can recognise, while remaining strong enough to stand alone in digital and print environments.

We decided to go for the gold and beige tones, drawn directly from the building’s material palette, became the core brand colours. This elevated the identity instantly, moving it away from the coastal blue narrative and into something more enduring and architectural.

This rebrand marks a turning point. Chabad of Bondi has evolved from a local organisation with a coastal themed logo into a refined, future focused institution with a physical presence to match.

The identity now reflects the scale of their vision. It stands confidently on the building facade, translates seamlessly online, and supports the organisation as it continues to grow.

After 15 years of partnership, this wasn’t just another update. It was a brand built from the foundations up.

A look behind the scenes

We began with structured concept development, focusing on symbolism and geometry rather than loose sketching. The logo was constructed using precise angles, intersecting lines and measured spacing to achieve balance and symmetry. The layered form references architectural strength and stability while subtly nodding to tradition, without being overly literal.

We ran multiple construction studies to refine proportion, line weight and scalability. The mark was then refined in Illustrator, where we tested flat and dimensional variations to ensure it worked across light and dark environments. Every detail was considered to make sure the logo scales cleanly from small digital applications through to large format use.

Once the identity was locked in, we built out the broader brand system and translated it into a structured website. The website architecture was designed around clarity, simple navigation and easy content management so the Chabad team can manage events, programs and updates internally without friction.

In case you were wondering, the inspiratation for the logo did come from it's unique building shape

We tried other versions too

Played around with the smallest details

Wanted to add other symbolic elements in it

Tried other geometrical shapes

Really got into the smallest details

Almost built our own version of the building

Wanted to experiment with other shapes too
The Result

Chabad of Bondi now has a brand and website that match the quality of their work.

Their visual identity is consistent and professional across all touchpoints. Their website clearly communicates who they are, what they offer and how people can get involved.

Most importantly, the platform now supports their growth instead of slowing them down. It works as a central hub for services, events, donations and community engagement.

This project was not about flashy design. It was about clarity, structure and creating a strong digital foundation for a community that continues to grow.
