When the world slowed down in 2020, many businesses were forced to make tough decisions. For Alexander Vlassov, founder of Shtudio, the pandemic became a turning point that opened new doors instead of closing them. Interview took place on SBS Radio in February 2021.

Clients Going Digital, Fast

At first, some clients pulled back on spending, unsure about the future. But very quickly, a new wave of businesses came knocking. Many had relied on in-person events, conferences, and networking, and suddenly found themselves invisible online.

“A lot of companies realised they had no website, no presence on the internet. They needed to move online quickly, and that’s where we stepped in.”

This shift fuelled growth for Shtudio. After a short dip, demand bounced back sharply – a reminder that adaptability often makes the difference between decline and growth.

Pricing, Value, and Lessons Learned

One of the most striking moments in the interview was Alex’s candid reflection on pricing.

“We didn’t lower our prices during COVID – we actually raised them. At the start, our prices were too low. Over time we saw that clients who value quality are happy to invest more. Cheaper prices don’t always bring better outcomes.”

This realisation reshaped how Shtudio positioned itself in the market. By focusing on clients who were serious about growing, the team built stronger partnerships and delivered better results.

The Power of Focus

When asked whether he ever thought about going back to a regular job, Alex didn’t hesitate.

“No. I had opportunities, but I knew I needed to focus. I had a strong team in Australia, Ukraine, and Russia, and I believed in where we could take the business.”

That commitment paid off. Shtudio has not only survived the uncertainty of recent years but also expanded its reach, building a solid base of clients who value design, strategy, and long-term growth.

Every crisis brings opportunities. If you look at history, some of the biggest businesses started during downturns. Those who take the leap now may be the ones we’ll see thriving in five years. Shtudio’s journey is a reminder that challenges often spark innovation. With focus, resilience, and a clear sense of value, tough times can turn into the very foundation for success.
